Shape Note Singing in Minneapolis - St. Paul

Our group has been singing from the Sacred Harp for over 25 years. Copies of The Sacred Harp are available to borrow during the singing. We usually have between 20 and 40 people at a given Sunday night singing. The schedule of singings tells about the next few singings. Shape Note Singing Schedule for Minneapolis - St. Paul

Everyone is welcome to come and sing or listen. Loaner copies and sale copies (1991 Edition $18, 2006 Cooper Revision $18) are generally available from individual singers at each singing.

Our singings from the 1991 Edition of the Sacred Harp take place on the second Sunday of each month in Dinkytown, and on the fourth Sunday of each month in south Minneapolis. In addition, we sing from the 2006 Cooper Revision of the Sacred Harp on the third Sunday each month in Dinkytown/Minneapolis.

Students at the University of Minnesota sponsor a singing from the 1991 Edition on Tuesday nights at University Baptist Church in Dinkytown from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday nights (attendance is typically 15-20 singers).

Beginners are welcome and encouraged to attend all singings.

Minnesota State Convention

The high point of shape note singings are singing conventions (Warren Steel tells more about those here) held usually on a weekend with several hours of singing and a pot-luck "dinner on the grounds". Our annual convention in Minnesota typically has over 100 singers.

The 18th Annual Minnesota Sacred Harp Singing Convention is Saturday and Sunday, September 22 and 23, 2007.
